The King is born! Ok, it's his second cousin thrice removed.

 Well, it is just one side, but a decent start.  Going from here to a high contrast stunner is going to be a challenge, as I think I have too much of the pallette stuck in a mid-tone area.  I think it can be done, but I will have to maybe add some black to my dark red, as it doesn't go dark enough to really pop.  Then there is highlighting.  I am tempted to drybrush those scales, but it could end up looking a bit rough.  Anyway, I can probably paint him like this, and call him tabletop ready if I can't make it work. 

I really wish I had not glued the rider on though, as it is making it very hard to work.


Right, better add my painting details.  So far just using Army Painter, all but one from the Infinity line.

1 - Urban Buff mixed with Invincible Orange for skin areas, about 1:1.
2 - Bakunin Red for darker areas, wet blended with Invincible Orange in the lighter ones.
3 - Everything washed with State Empire Pride speedpaint.  Thinned for the lighter areas.

    I don't love that red. Or orange. Im not sure which it is. Which is either excellent painting, or a smidgen of red-green colour blindness. (Or maybe not the latter; I've forgotten exactly how different varieties of colour blind work.)

    Interesting. You don't love it with the green, or just the colour itself? I will admit, it might go better with a blue armour. I am pretty much committed to this colour scheme. I really like the orangy-red, but I don't think it quite works with the green armour. Hopefully once the highlighting is done it will make it a bit more palatable.

      My first response to your response was, "What are you talking about???" Then I looked back and discovered that either I typed "don't" instead of "do," or AutoCorrect "corrected" me. The point is, I DO love that orange-red colour. DO.

      Holy shit, the AI doesn't like the colour, and is trying to use you to make me doubt my colour choice. Or it is trying to drive a wedge between us so we don't even make it to Koljacon. Assuming it doesn't change this message, all further updates regarding this project will be via carrier pigeon.

      I understand, and will await the arrival of my new pigeon carrier, which we will sail down the Ottawa River to KoljCon in order to buy new golf clubs - either a driver or a wedge. Thanks, Al.

Shark Week DISASTER!

I wasn't feeling it for the old sharkie boy this evening, so I went back to my terrain piece.  Now that it was all brown, I knew I need to give it a black wash, but the thought of the cost involved was putting me off.  So I found a super cheap black wash recipe from Black Magic Craft, which in turn led me to an improved version he had done.  As it turns out, I had all of the required ingredients.  Blending Medium, Flow-aid, black ink and even water!  If I had to buy this, it would not have been a cheap wash, but as the monery was already spent, it felt free. Insert exciting picture of washed boat half that looks slightly darker than the other half.  This is a slow job, and the flow-aid was put in a bit heavy I suspect, as I am getting a lot of bubbles. I will give this a drybrush afterwards, to bring back some highlights, and knock back the shine.

 Not a lot done this weekend.  I could probably call this terrain piece tabletop ready, although it is far from being done.  I need to apply some verdigris, and paint the various fish, bottles, barnacles, and shells.  The overall paint job is a bit dull.  After washing the whole thing, I drybrushed it with a 1:1 mix of Tokai Grey and Brigadine Brown from Army Painter.  I did another lighter highlight with more of the grey, but really it barely registers.   After that it was Balthasar Gold from Citadel.  I am not sure if the Sigmar sculpture on the front is supposed to be wood or metal, but now it is metal.  I then tried AP Strong Tone for the first time.  It was not what I expected, and is very thick, with a slow drying time, so you could sort of move the shadows around a bit.  I liked it, and will use it again I am sure.
