The shark tornado approaches!

Image
Getting pretty close here.  A bit more paint, some highlighting and this last Idoneth model will be done.  I guess there is still some work to be done on the shipwreck, but I could pretty easily field it now and most people wouldn't notice it wasn't finished.  Then I can focus on the Cogfort.

Sharkskin

Image
Well, I only took a picture of the shark, but I was able to get almost all of the first layer of Wraithbone over the wood sections of the Cogfort.  I will do some touch-ups, then start with the contrast, big weekend coming up! So as per the title, I painted the shark's skin, so that is done. I also put a layer of wraithbone over the suit is is wearing, and will need to apply some contrast leather on that.

More fort

Image
Just kept plugging away at the cogfort.  Metal highlights, and started putting wraithbone on all the wood in preparation of the Aggaros Dunes contrast wash.  Finding bits that I painted metal that are wood and vice versa, so some repainting has become necessary.

Sharkfort

Image
So I finished painting all the bits that are going to be the Obsidian Black True Metallic.  This includes a basecoat that is almost completely black, with a hint of silver metallic flecks.  Then you coat it with a special shade, that makes it entirely black.  Almost like you could have just basecoated it black ;)  Although, I just looked at a larger version of the picture, and I guess it still has some metallic sheen to it. I also finished doing one side of the shark skin.  Pretty subtle colouring I guess, and I assume will not photograph well, but it looks ok in person.  Confirmed, looks bad in the picture, looks fine in person, with poor eyesight, from three feet away.

A weekend's work

Image
Well, some of this was already posted, but here is a picture of what I got done this weekend.  I am feeling pretty good about my chances of getting these done between now and the 8th, but need to press on.

Shark Week - Season 2

Image
I bet you thought you wouldn't see another shark post for a while, but in between painting stone, metal, and wood Cogfort bits, I found some time to get the armour done on the Allopex and riders.

Cogfort

Image
So I was focusing on the turret today, trying to get as much of it covered as possible, also got a layer of paint down on all the stone bits.  A lot of painting today, and yet still lots to do.

Crew of the Flamin' Possum reporting to duty!

Image
For today the Cogfort is on the menu, but I could see me picking away at the Allopex at the same time.  Although not today.  I bought some Obsidian Black True Metallic Metals paints for the armour. It is really black, which the name of the paint should have clued me in to, but for some reason I thought they would be a little less black.  I am using an old bottle of P3 Menoth White for the tunics with Agrax Earthshade over top.  Will highlight up from there at some point, but just want to block stuff in right now.  The jackets and coats will be red, Bakunin Neon mixed 1:1 with black to start, then working up through straight Bakunin to Gecko Armour. Pants are Runic Grey, boots are either Grim Black or Gravelord Grey, still can't decide which I like better. Should have finished a test model, but I am just going to go for it. Ok, I felt compelled to add an update with the "light" Obsidian Black metallic added, and it does really brighten things up.  To the poi...

The home stretch

Image
Basically two weeks left to paint, due to a work trip.  This is it though, I get all the white covered up on these minis, and I will consider my minimum requirements have been met.  Definitely a few other pieces that could use a bit of work, but I am willing to let them slide.

Turtle down!

Image
Like, I am finished painting him, not that he has crashed.  I mean, given the attached pictures, it is a pretty bold statement to say he is finished, but it is all I am going to do for now.  Lot's of additional work coulf be done, especially on the rather dull shell, but I have only about 2 weeks of painting time left available to me, with still quite a bit left to do.

Base paint

Image
So sprayed the turtle base with white from the side and above with my airbrush.  Threw some splotches of dark and light green cheapo paint on the base, then gave the whole thing a thick coating of Agrax Earthshade.  I was going to drybrush it with a light brown, but I kind of like how it looks now.  Painted the fish with various contrast paints.  Still some work to do there, but kind of getting close.  Also put more Skeleton Horde on the saddle.  It will need a drybrush to lighten it up a bit.  I add the drummer just to add another element to the picture.

Running out of steam

Image
I find myself slipping into paint by numbers mode.  Just filling in white space with different colours so I can say it is painted.  Not sure if it is that I am burned out, or stressed because of the ever closer end date, but I am doing the bare minimum these days. Today's bare minimum brought to you buy Brigadine Brown and Skeleton Horde.

Experimenting on animals

Image
So I tried something today that I think helped a bit, but I am not certain.  I am going to post both pictures in this post, the one from yesterday, and today to see if it was at all successful.  From the thumbnails, I see no difference ;). Ah well, not a ton of time invested.  If it worked I was going to describe what I did, but I just spent several minutes toggling back and forth to see the difference, and struggled, so no description needed.

Turtle Burgler

Image
Continue the process of putting paint on the turtle.  Finished the Mantis Warrior Contrast on the skin, now I need to decide why colour I should use to drybrush over it. I will probably just do a very light green.

Turd Burger?

Image
I am on the fence with this one.  The brown and green don't quite work together, but I am not sure what I think about it.  My main concern is once the saddle and base are in the picture, that there will be many clashing colours at play.  If I was to go entirely back in time, I probably buy blue True Metallic Metals for their armour instead of green.

Turtle Burger

Image
I know what you are thinking.  What is with the boring looking turtle?  There are so many amazing looking turtles on the internet you could have copied, but instead you painted it brown.  Actually, maybe that is just what I was thinking. It had to be done though.  I have been totally paralyzed when it came to painting this reptile, as there are just so many amazing examples, and also quite a few boring ones that I didn't like.  I wanted this guy to look amazing, a centrepiece model for the ages.   Then this evening I said to myself, fuck it, I am just going to drybrush this piece of shit.  No one can stop me, and then it will be done, and I can move on to something less intimidating.  Or possibly more intimidating, but regardless, I am going to drybrush the shell, then contrast paint the rest of the skin, and move on. Also contrast painted some pants and dresses Akhelian Green..

Waving Goodbye!

Image
Ok, I could easily spend a couple more hours highlighting this mini, but it is good enough.  I need to move on to other things.

Lupdate

Image
That's a lunch time update to those not in the know.  I did some drybrushing.  This sucker is very close to being good enough.  A bit of detail on the netting, and the skeleton, and I am going to call this tabletop ready.

New Wave

Image
So there is no real way for you to know that this was new painting, as I don't think I have ever shown the back of the wave, but it is.  I had a bit of time before work this morning, so did a drybrush of Fanatic Grotesque Green, followed by a 3:2 mixture of Tallasar Contrast paint to medium.  That is all.

Turtlemania!

Image
Just started doing the armour on the turtle.  Managed to smear green armour paint in various spots, which was great.  A fair bit of the armour is on his underside, which no one will see.

Armoured Turtle Saddle

Image
Just doing the armour base coat to start.

Waving goodbye?

Image
If it weren't for the gap filler, I could have pushed this guy to tabletop ready today, but instead it will have to wait another day or two.  Some patch work needed for some spots missing paint, then a drybrush, a layer of thinned contrast, and another drybrush, and maybe a few white highlights and this sucker is done. Reaver added for comparison, as requested.

Getting there...

Image
I spent a bit of time on the Incarnate today, and was able to make a good bit of progress.  I am very close to being able to complete the assembly, but still have to finish up some highlights.

Four skin

Image
Like the title says, I painted skin on four minis.  I also did quite a bit of work on the wave, and I am pretty sure, I don't see much of a difference.

Stuff

Image
Tired, not much to say.  Basecoat of Sea Blue done for the Incarnate, but still a long road ahead.  Turtle riders armour highlighted, on to the skin and clothes.

Turtle soup

Image
Ok, there is no turtle here, but those are turtle riders joining the whack of things I have in various stages of unfinishedness.  I wasn't really feeling like working on the Incarnate, so thought instead of doing nothing, I would start getting some armour done on the turtle riders.  Then I went and did a few rocks in thinned Grim Black on the Incarnate, just so I could include it in the picture, although most of them are in the back where you can't see them ;) Also, the chain broke on my turtle steerer, and I don't know where it went.  sad.
