Base paint

So sprayed the turtle base with white from the side and above with my airbrush.  Threw some splotches of dark and light green cheapo paint on the base, then gave the whole thing a thick coating of Agrax Earthshade.  I was going to drybrush it with a light brown, but I kind of like how it looks now.  Painted the fish with various contrast paints.  Still some work to do there, but kind of getting close.  Also put more Skeleton Horde on the saddle.  It will need a drybrush to lighten it up a bit.  I add the drummer just to add another element to the picture.

    Would you consider adding a pattern to the turtle's shell as if they painted it on?

    That's the only dissatisfaction I have - that the broad expanse of the shell is a single colour, even though there are dark and light contrast shading.

      I get the sentiment, but probably not. I have been thinking about many ways that I could improve the turtle, especially the shell, but with what is still left for me to paint, and being out of town the week before K-con, has me leaning towards accepting it how it is. Totally agree though, the shell is a bit of a wasteland atthe moment.

Shark Week DISASTER!

I wasn't feeling it for the old sharkie boy this evening, so I went back to my terrain piece.  Now that it was all brown, I knew I need to give it a black wash, but the thought of the cost involved was putting me off.  So I found a super cheap black wash recipe from Black Magic Craft, which in turn led me to an improved version he had done.  As it turns out, I had all of the required ingredients.  Blending Medium, Flow-aid, black ink and even water!  If I had to buy this, it would not have been a cheap wash, but as the monery was already spent, it felt free. Insert exciting picture of washed boat half that looks slightly darker than the other half.  This is a slow job, and the flow-aid was put in a bit heavy I suspect, as I am getting a lot of bubbles. I will give this a drybrush afterwards, to bring back some highlights, and knock back the shine.

 Not a lot done this weekend.  I could probably call this terrain piece tabletop ready, although it is far from being done.  I need to apply some verdigris, and paint the various fish, bottles, barnacles, and shells.  The overall paint job is a bit dull.  After washing the whole thing, I drybrushed it with a 1:1 mix of Tokai Grey and Brigadine Brown from Army Painter.  I did another lighter highlight with more of the grey, but really it barely registers.   After that it was Balthasar Gold from Citadel.  I am not sure if the Sigmar sculpture on the front is supposed to be wood or metal, but now it is metal.  I then tried AP Strong Tone for the first time.  It was not what I expected, and is very thick, with a slow drying time, so you could sort of move the shadows around a bit.  I liked it, and will use it again I am sure.
