Prepped and ready to go - the final chapter

Well, until the sequel comes out I guess.  Here are all the remaining Idoneth I have left to paint.  I am leaving Mathaela out, because I still have no face for her, and the hobby shop seems to have ghosted me.

    I'm psyched!

    Is Mathaela a mortal person (or attack least an Aelf, who may be neither mortal nor people in AoS)...? Does she have to have a proper face, or could she be done with a sort of blank, otherworldly mask that you either sculpt or find from your bitz bins...?

      She has a mask, that I think could maybe be replaced, but the way GW does miniatures now, all the pieces are integrated, and I am struggling to figure out how to even glue her together. But yes, I think that may be my only option at this point.

Meh? Imagination vs Application

I had a pretty strong vision in my mind.  High contrast, smooth blends, and shading that just brought out the slight undulations that I knew I couldn't tackle with my brushwork alone.  It was going to be the eel to end all eels. Instead, an eel was painted in a way that gently whispers "meh". Today's paints, are all from the Army Painter Fanatic line.  Grotesque Green, Camouflage Green and Woodland Green which are all from the same Olive Green family, from light to dark.  I had to add a bit of Matt Black to the Woodland Camo for the deeper recesses.  After finishing their application, I gave the whole thing a wash of 1:1 Contrast Mantis Warrior Green to medium. This was probably a mistake, and I was forced to do a drybrush of Grotesque Green over everything to tone it down.  This caught a few edges of armour, so will need to touch those areas up. I don't hate how they look, but may do something different with the next unit.

Thralls Batch 1 - Armour and skin

Same recipe as before for the skin, but I am going to put it down again, just to reinforce it.  Vallejo Pale Blue Grey base, Drakenhof Nightshade 2:1 with Speedpaint Medium wash, then a thin layer of the base colour back over top.  Next will be the Citadel Wraithbone highlight. For the hero, basecoat of Army Painter Topaz Skin, wash with straight Citadel Reikland Fleshshade, highlight with 1:1 thinned mix of Topaz Skin and Leopard Stone Skin (Army Painter), followed by a bit of thinned Leopard Stone Skin.

Shark Week DISASTER!

I wasn't feeling it for the old sharkie boy this evening, so I went back to my terrain piece.  Now that it was all brown, I knew I need to give it a black wash, but the thought of the cost involved was putting me off.  So I found a super cheap black wash recipe from Black Magic Craft, which in turn led me to an improved version he had done.  As it turns out, I had all of the required ingredients.  Blending Medium, Flow-aid, black ink and even water!  If I had to buy this, it would not have been a cheap wash, but as the monery was already spent, it felt free. Insert exciting picture of washed boat half that looks slightly darker than the other half.  This is a slow job, and the flow-aid was put in a bit heavy I suspect, as I am getting a lot of bubbles. I will give this a drybrush afterwards, to bring back some highlights, and knock back the shine.
